Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev received at the New Town Hall
A high-ranking visitor came to the city of science: Mayor Hanno Benz received the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, at the New Town Hall on Luisenplatz on Tuesday, February 21. Ambassador Makeiev signed the city's Golden Book and expressed his gratitude for the support and solidarity shown towards Ukraine.
Mayor Hanno Benz assured the ambassador of Darmstadt's continued support. "The science city of Darmstadt was delighted by Mr. Makeiev's visit. This also demonstrates how close and unwavering German-Ukrainian relations remain, especially at the municipal level, even after almost three years of brutal Russian war of aggression."
Darmstadt has maintained a partnership with the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod since 1992, and especially at the beginning of the war, extensive aid shipments were regularly sent from Darmstadt to Uzhhorod. Since the start of the war, numerous Ukrainian refugees have also found shelter from war and destruction in Darmstadt, and some have even found a new home there.
