Carol singers deliver the annual blessing at Riedstadt Town Hall
To conclude this year's Epiphany carolers' campaign, four carolers from the parish of St. Boniface and St. Alban, accompanied by their supervisor Dagmar Bahrenberg, visited Mayor Marcus Kretschmann at the town hall in Riedstadt . In his office, they delivered the traditional annual blessing "Christus Mansionem Benedicat" – "May Christ bless this house" – and sang several songs, including "Star over Bethlehem" and "Children can make a difference."
The carol singers also explained the background of this year's campaign to the mayor. Under the nationwide motto "School instead of factory – carol singing against child labor," the focus in 2026 is on the issue of child labor, with a particular emphasis on Bangladesh. The aim of the collection is to enable children worldwide to attend school and to protect them from exploitative labor.
Commitment to children worldwide
Mayor Kretschmann was impressed by the children's efforts and thanked them for their commitment. He supported the initiative with a donation and afterwards treated the carolers to drinks and sweets.
As Dagmar Bahrenberg reported, a total of 76 children and 33 accompanying adults participated this year. They visited approximately 550 households in all districts of Riedstadt. To ensure that as many households as possible can be reached in the future, the parish welcomes more children who would like to join the carol singing. Participants are especially needed in the districts of Goddelau and Leeheim. Participation is open to all religious denominations; interested individuals can contact the parish office.
