Weiterstadt's commitment to accessibility and inclusion recognized
At the invitation of State Parliament President Astrid Wallmann, a large volunteer appreciation event took place at Biebrich Palace in Wiesbaden. Around 300 dedicated individuals from across Hesse were honored for their commitment in areas such as emergency services, clubs, churches, sports, and social and cultural engagement.
Members of the Weiterstadt Advisory Board for the Equality of People with Disabilities (BGMB) participated in the celebration. This not only highlighted their work in Weiterstadt, but also their contribution to greater accessibility, participation, and equality .
In her speech, Astrid Wallmann emphasized: "Volunteering forms the foundation for a vibrant community and strengthens cohesion in our society."
Participation in the advisory board is now easier
With the updated statutes, participation in the BGMB (Independent Citizens' Council) will be simpler in the future: Instead of an election, an appointment process by the city council . This will allow interested individuals – with or without disabilities – to contribute their ideas more easily and actively participate in creating an inclusive city together with the city administration.
The advisory board welcomes new members and perspectives .
