Accessible facilities at Georg-Schüler-Platz, the carriage hall and at Bar-le-Duc Square
Griesheim has three public, accessible toilet facilities in a central location. To ensure that these sensitive facilities are used exclusively by people who need them, they are equipped with the Europe-wide standardized Euro WC key system.
The three accessible sanitary facilities are located at:
- at the carriage house
- on Georg-Schüler-Platz
- at Place Bar-le-Duc
“I am pleased that we can offer three public accessible sanitary facilities in the city center of Griesheim, which are used exclusively by people who depend on them,” explains Heike Maschke , disability officer of the city of Griesheim.
The Euro WC key allows access throughout Europe
The Euro WC Key offers people with physical disabilities free and independent access to around 12,000 accessible toilet facilities across Europe . These include accessible toilets at motorway service areas, train stations, museums, government buildings , and in pedestrian zones . The special locking system protects the facilities from misuse and ensures cleanliness and hygiene – a particular advantage for blind or visually impaired people.
Acquisition of the key in the region
The Euro WC key can be purchased for a fee of €28.90 from the Club for the Disabled and their Friends in Darmstadt and the Surrounding Area (CBF Darmstadt) . It is issued exclusively to individuals who require accessible toilets.
Requirements for obtaining
Persons with the following disability symbols on their severely disabled person's ID card are eligible:
- aG , B , H , BL (regardless of the degree of disability)
- or G with a degree of disability (GdB) of 70 or higher
Also eligible with medical documentation are:
- Stoma patients
- People with multiple sclerosis
- People with chronic bladder or bowel conditions
- Patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
The application requires a copy of the severely disabled person's ID card (front and back) or corresponding medical proof .
Important: The key must not be lent to relatives or acquaintances , as its use is intended exclusively for authorized persons.
