Nationwide action draws attention to the European idea - the HEAG Mobilo bus drives through the city in European design
Since May 1, 2025, a regular bus has also been traveling in striking European design in Darmstadt. The campaign is part of a nationwide initiative of the State of Hesse, which draws attention to the importance of Europe as part of the European Christmas. The HEAG Mobilo bus turns alternately on various lines in the urban area.
"Our Europe Direct in the Darmstadt Regional Council and I also personally like to support this action, as it makes the European idea visible to everyone," emphasizes President of the District Dr. Jan Hilligardt.
Support for the initiative also comes from the district: Lutz Köhler, the first district deputy, says: "Our region is in the heart of Europe. The European Christmas is helping people to understand themselves better and that a strong common Europe is possible."
Darmstadt City Councilor Paul Georg Wandrey particularly emphasizes the importance of the EU for everyday life: "The European Union enables limitless mobility and is a guarantee for personal exchange and cultural understanding. I am very pleased that a European city is also driving in Darmstadt!"
Arne Rath, Managing Director of HEAG Mobilo, adds: "40 years of Schengen Agreement remind us of how much we have achieved through European cooperation. As a mobility service provider with employees from many nations, we are happy to carry this conviction visible through the city."

The campaign is accompanied by a nationwide social media competition: If you make a selfie with one of the European buses and post it on Instagram, you can win a Hesse package.
