Events with readings and educational trip around common history and current challenges
On the European day on May 9th, the Groß-Gerau district college (KVHS) offers several events that deal with the historical and current development of relationships between Germany, France and Poland. In addition to readings in Mörfelden-Walldorf and Gernsheim, an educational leave in Alsace is also on the program in September.
Reading during the French occupation
On Sunday, May 4th , Gerhard Bökel reads the Southwest France during the Second World War at 5 p.m. Collaboration, Résistance and the post -war period are discussed. Admission is free. The organizer is the KVHS together with the Margit Horváth Foundation.
Event to the German legacy in the west of Poland
On Thursday, May 9th , a reading in Gernsheim with the author Karolina Kuszyk will 7 p.m. In her book "Poniemieckie - The German Cultural Heritage in the West of Poland", she highlights the argument of the Polish population with the German past in former German areas. Cooperation partners include the Association of Cities Partnerships, the Gernsheim, Work and Leben Stadtbücherei, the Bornhofen bookstore and the Caritas network.
Educational leave in Alsace in September
A special program item is the educational leave from September 13th to 17th, 2025 in Alsace. The participants visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg and the Mémorial Alsace-Moselle in Schirmeck. Talks with trade unionists from French CGT are also planned. The educational leave takes place in cooperation with the DGB district association Groß-Gerau and Life Hesse.
