The town hall's stairwell gallery is showing colorful portraits of women until the end of March
Colorful female heads with large eyes and full lips are currently bringing color and cheer to the stairwell gallery of the Riedstadt town hall. Playful elements further enhance the cheerful atmosphere of the paintings. A lady in a hat sips her cocktail through a real straw, while glued-on stars and buttons become earrings, necklaces, and hairstyles, or, like fabric flowers and feathers, adorn hats and dresses.
At the exhibition opening, Mayor Marcus Kretschmann expressed his delight that the Biebesheim artist Nadine Molter had brought color to the Riedstadt town hall with her works, declaring: "I think it's wonderful that you've found your way to painting. It's a real asset to the town hall." For the trained educator, creative expression had always been important. However, when she was 19, Nadine Molter was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a rare eye condition that causes central vision loss, leaving only peripheral vision. She has only three percent vision in her left eye and five percent in her right, Molter explained.
But she doesn't want to let that stop her from painting; on the contrary, she wants to continue her artistic pursuits for as long as possible, she emphasizes. "Because I can no longer focus properly, I can't paint small. So I paint large and use aids like a magnifying glass and magnifying glasses," she says. And because she knows that eventually she won't be able to see colors anymore, she revels in cheerful colors for as long as she can.
When asked if she has a painting she's particularly fond of, Molter doesn't have to think long. "That's the painting 'Nina and Nadine,' which hangs on the second floor. It's a portrait of my friend Nina Rothermel and myself. She's my best friend and helps me a lot behind the scenes so I can pursue my art," she says with a radiant smile.
The exhibition “There are all colors after all” by Nadine Molter in the stairwell gallery can be viewed free of charge until the end of March during the opening hours of the Riedstadt town hall.
