A new self-help group will start in Groß-Gerau in February
Menopause (climacteric) marks a natural phase in a woman's life, during which she is sometimes confronted with a variety of physical, emotional, and social challenges. Hormonal fluctuations can lead to problems such as difficulty concentrating—the so-called "brain fog"—fatigue, and sleep disturbances, which reduces performance and causes problems in both private and professional life.
At the beginning of menopause, mood swings, depression, and anxiety can occur, the cause of which is often not recognized, leading to a lack of support. Weight gain, hot flashes, and sudden sweating are accompanied by feelings of shame and insecurity. This can cause women to withdraw from professional and social activities. Menopausal joint and muscle pain can reduce physical activity, which also lowers overall well-being.
When pressure mounts from societal expectations, professional obligations, or family demands, connecting with other women can be a relief, provide new perspectives, and boost self-esteem. At the initiative of one woman affected by similar challenges, a new self-help group will be formed in Groß-Gerau in February with the support of the Self-Help Office. Here, women can share their experiences and support one another. The group will function as a self-organized association of women affected by similar challenges. It is not a course or a therapeutic service. Participation is free. Those interested can register with the Self-Help Office at selbsthilfe.gross-gerau@paritaet-projekte.org
