More than 29,000 visitors to the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt
The major special science exhibition "Clouds. Experience and Understand" Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt is only on display Sunday, January 11, 2026. August 22, 2025, the immersive exhibition has already more than 29,000 visitors .
Immersive journey through the world of clouds
The exhibition invites visitors on an exciting journey through the world of clouds. On display are replicas of various cloud types, some up to eight meters in size . A VR station brings dramatic weather changes such as thunderstorms and tornadoes to life.
In the so-called "Sky Room," high above the exhibition, specially crafted cloud seats invite visitors to virtually revel in the clouds. The experience is enhanced by current research findings on cloud types, climate, animal precipitation, and historical background information. In this way, the exhibition combines scientific insights with a truly immersive experience.

Museum director Dr. Martin Faass is delighted with the success of the exhibition:
"The response from more than 29,000 visitors so far is already a great success, which we are very pleased about. With this exhibition, we show the public how exciting and diverse the field of cloud research is."
The accompanying guided tours, events and podcasts , which provide in-depth insights into cloud research, are also very well received, according to the museum.
Accompanying program and events
On Saturday, January 10, 2026 a reading session related to the exhibition will take place from 2 pm to 3 pm . The Darmstadt City Library will be a guest at the State Museum.
To accompany the exhibition, podcasts in the series "The Green Sofa" , including conversations with weather experts and cloud researchers. The podcasts are available www.hlmd.de.
Admission and opening hours
Admission is €12 , concessions €8 , both prices include entry to the permanent exhibition. Children and young people up to 18 years of age have free admission .
The museum is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 am to 6 pm , Wednesdays from 11 am to 8 pm, and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11 am to 6 pm .
