Liberals focus on improving urban quality, economic strength, and providing new impetus for Darmstadt
The FDP Darmstadt has adopted its election platform for the 2026 local elections unanimously approved the platform at its meeting on December 16, 2025. Building on the guidelines already adopted at the district party conference in September 2025, the FDP now presents its concrete political plans in ten thematic chapters .
The central theme is "More urban quality for all" . According to the FDP, Darmstadt should be further developed more decisively – ecologically, economically and in terms of urban planning.
Christoph Rohloff, chairman of the FDP Darmstadt, criticizes in particular the city's current development policy:
" A prerequisite for a livable Darmstadt is a much more determined removal of impervious surfaces and the creation of green spaces . This is where the remaining Green-led coalition has failed most clearly over the past 15 years." Furthermore, Darmstadt must position itself more professionally as a city of science and culture with international appeal .
Administration, mobility and urban development in focus
The FDP calls for an efficient administration that operates digitally, quickly, and with a focus on citizen services. In transport policy, the party advocates for a regionally integrated transport development plan . It rejects isolated measures such as separate cycle paths and instead supports cross-modal planning that extends beyond city limits.
The FDP also calls for a change of course in urban development: away from high-density block construction , towards urban living concepts , opportunities for home ownership for young families , and a significant upgrade of the city center and public spaces.
Economy and finance as the basis of urban quality
The FDP sees a strong Darmstadt economy . Trade and commerce should not be further hampered by additional burdens such as packaging or hotel taxes. Despite high revenues, the party believes there is a lack of strategic spending control , which is reflected in the city's high per capita debt.
Viola Gebek, the liberal lead candidate for the 2026 local elections, emphasizes:
“ Darmstadt has by no means exhausted its potential. It now needs strong new impetus with economic, social, educational and environmental policy reason and foresight. ”
Leif Blum, second on the list, also speaks of a necessary new beginning:
"Darmstadt is stuck in administrative inertia. Instead of ever new prohibitions, our city needs the courage to shape its future ."
With the adopted program, the FDP Darmstadt expresses confidence for the 2026 local elections and states its ambition to actively address key future issues facing the city.
