High voter turnout and a close race for the direct mandate
In the election for the 21st German Bundestag, the citizens of the district town of Groß-Gerau showed a high voter turnout. 82.15 percent of eligible voters exercised their right to vote and participated in the snap election. Of the 16,875 eligible voters, 13,863 cast their ballots. 156 votes were declared invalid, representing 1.13 percent.
First votes: Close race between SPD and CDU
In the first-past-the-post vote, the SPD and CDU neck and neck. SPD candidate Melanie Wegling the most votes with 4,292 (31.31 percent) Marcus Kretschmann (CDU) with 4,263 votes (31.10 percent) .
Second votes: CDU ahead of SPD and AfD
The second vote result reveals a differentiated political landscape in Groß-Gerau:
- CDU: 3,900 votes ( 28.39% )
- SPD: 2,833 votes ( 20.62% )
- AfD: 2,041 votes ( 14.86% )
- Greens: 1,708 votes ( 12.43% )
- Left Party: 1,288 votes ( 9.38% )
- Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW): 734 votes ( 5.34% )
- FDP: 634 votes ( 4.61% )
