Baptized people give light to confirmands
In a festive church service on Saturday evening, January 11, 2025, three young people were baptized in the Stockstadt church. The families had left the decision about baptism up to their children.
They had now registered for confirmation classes and decided to be baptized. During the service, they passed the light from their baptismal candles to the other confirmands. Beforehand, godparents and family members had offered the three newly baptized their personal best wishes before the congregation. The altar and baptismal font were decorated with red cloths and atmospherically illuminated. In the church, red is the color of the Holy Spirit and the community of believers. In her sermon, Pastor Auksutat spoke about the color red, explaining that it is a warning color, an expression of aggression, but above all, the color of love. God's love overcomes hatred and terror, and even death. Love, therefore, is the heartbeat of this world made so ugly by violence. And in this love, the newly baptized can live and love.
The confirmation group presented their own reflections on baptism during the baptismal service, interpreting a psalm in a way that resonated with their own lives and offering a prayer. The service was led by Pastor Auksutat. Organist Michael Tagliente provided the musical accompaniment on both the piano and the organ. Modern songs expressed praise of God and a sense of community in a way that resonated with young people.
