Following the successful fiber optic rollout in Griesheim-East, the second phase of the expansion is now beginning in Griesheim-Southwest . As the city of Griesheim has announced, construction is scheduled to in March 2026. It is already possible to book fiber optic plans.
The second phase of the project encompasses approximately 3,800 households and about 1,800 addresses . The development area lies south of Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße and west of Lindenstraße . The work is expected to be completed by mid- to late 2027 .
Following the completion of the Griesheim-Southwest project, the final construction phase, Griesheim-North, . This area encompasses approximately 4,500 households and about 2,100 addresses . Construction is currently scheduled to start in mid-2027 . The construction period is estimated at 18 to 24 months , including the installation of the individual connections. Residents can already register their interest in this area. As soon as the final planning is complete, the addresses for the expansion will be entered into the booking system. Registered individuals will then be informed by email about the pre-order option, according to Deutsche Telekom.
This is how the fiber optic connection gets into the house
A fiber optic connection can free of charge if a corresponding tariff is signed up during the construction phase. This requires a permit, as the work takes place on private property. After booking a fiber optic tariff, the construction company will contact the owners, property management company, or housing association to clarify the further details and obtain the necessary permits.
