Telekom starts network expansion – first connections possible from June 2025
The fiber optic rollout in Griesheim is expected to begin at the end of March 2025. The city of Griesheim and Deutsche Telekom will inform all citizens about the project at two events.

- Tuesday, March 18, 2025, 7 p.m. – Griesheim Carriage Hall
- Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 7 p.m. – St. Stephan Community Center
Fiber optics as a key technology for the future
Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl emphasizes the importance of the project:
“Fiber optics is the key technology for our digital society. The new network increases the attractiveness of our city and secures our future viability as a residential and business location.”
According to Telekom, households and businesses with a fiber optic connection can benefit from bandwidths of up to 1,000 Mbit/s . Switching is particularly attractive: the fiber optic connection is currently free and saves €799.95 when a fiber optic plan is booked.

What is planned?
- 5,700 households and businesses in the eastern part of the city will be equipped with fiber optics (FTTH – Fiber-To-The-Home).
- The first of ten expansion phases starts on Lindenstrasse .
- Deutsche Telekom is laying 35 kilometers of fiber optic cable and installing 44 new network distributors .
- June 2025 : The first connections can be put into operation.
- 2027: Completion of construction work for the entire area.
How does fiber optic cable get into the house?
- Property owners must agree to the relocation. Telekom will inform all affected property management companies and owners in writing.
- Tenants can apply for a connection with Telekom. Telekom will then contact the landlord.
Griesheim on the path to a digital future
was carried out by the NGA-Netz between 2015 and 2017. In 2022 and 2023, underserved outlying areas such as isolated farmsteads were also connected to fiber optics.
Now, the comprehensive fiber optic rollout for Griesheim is underway. The town is thus among the municipalities that are investing early in sustainable infrastructure.
