Expansion of digital infrastructure begins with civil engineering work
The expansion of the fiber optic network has begun in Reinheim. With an official groundbreaking ceremony on March 9th, the civil engineering work for the new broadband network in the town began.
Representatives from the city and the participating companies, including Deutsche Glasfaser and ENTEGA, attended the meeting. They were supported by the construction partner EGN Deutschland GmbH and Mayor Manuel Feick.
Fast internet for homes and businesses
According to the city, the comprehensive expansion of digital infrastructure is of central importance for Reinheim's development. High-performance internet connections are now considered an essential prerequisite for work, education, and everyday life.
“Fast internet in every home is no longer a luxury, but an essential requirement for everyday life, education, and work,” explained Mayor Feick. He added that the expansion could also attract businesses, secure jobs, and strengthen the local economy.
Construction work using minimally invasive techniques
As part of the construction work, empty conduits are first laid, into which the fiber optic cables will later be pulled. Milling machines are used for this purpose, among other things, to ensure that the cables are laid in streets and sidewalks as gently as possible.
After the work is completed, the affected areas will be temporarily sealed and secured. They can be reopened if necessary for the later installation of the house connections. Once the work is finished, the surfaces will be permanently restored and subsequently inspected and approved by the city.
Information for residents
According to the city, the civil engineering work will be carried out in close coordination between the city administration, the construction partners, and the telecommunications companies involved. Residents will be informed well in advance of the start of work on their respective streets.
Even during the construction phase, it is still possible to order fiber optic connections at special rates.
