Exhibition of the Darmstadt Secession in the space for art
As the Darmstadt Secession announces, artist Fides Becker will present her solo exhibition "Boudoir" at the Raum für Kunst gallery in Darmstadt from March 28 to May 2, 2026. The exhibition will feature paintings from her series "Legacies and Appearances." The opening reception will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Luisenstraße 16.
The Berlin-based artist titles her exhibition with the French term "boudoir." The works offer glimpses into morbid spaces and private scenes that speak of the absence of their former occupants. Titles such as "Red Round Bed," "Curtain," or "Brown Sleeping Bag" refer to intimate, almost deserted pictorial spaces where traces of both the present and memory become visible.
Identity between self and other
At the heart of Fides Becker's artistic exploration lies the question of identity as an interplay between the self and external influences. She understands her painting as a form of empirical cultural anthropological research. Through a fragmentary working method, she creates pictorial surfaces on which objects, colors, and forms overlap. Different eras, social contexts, reality, and fiction interpenetrate one another.
Highly diluted paint runs across the canvas during the painting process, making the creative process visible. The traces of paint simultaneously allude to the fading of memory and the decay of material structures. The raw canvas marks the boundary between illusionistic representation and real space. Through the combination of traditional and contemporary materials, Becker has developed a unique and characteristic painting style.
