City reacts to forest fire warning level 4 – no candles and caution when handling cigarettes
Due to the current drought and the German Weather Service's forest fire warning level 4, the green spaces department of the city of Darmstadt is urging caution: Lighting candles should be avoided in all municipal cemeteries until further notice.
Measures to protect against fires
The appeal is directed at all cemetery visitors. Corresponding notices are also posted directly in the cemeteries. This measure serves as a preventative fire safety measure, as even small sparks can have a dangerous effect.
Furthermore, the Parks Department reminds everyone that throwing away cigarettes or other flammable objects is generally not permitted – but poses a particularly great danger during dry periods.
