Initiative of the senior advisory board should promote exchange and encounter
The city of Griesheim has recently had its first official Plauderbank - set up in the local cemetery. The bank can be found if you take the first path to the left from the parking lot. In the third cross -series it is clearly visible with a corresponding sign: Anyone who takes a seat here signals openness to a conversation - about grief, memories or life in general.
The measure was initiated by the Senior Advisory Board of the City of Griesheim , implemented by the city administration and building yard. "The idea was realized quickly," says the committee. "The cemetery is a place of memory and silence, but also a place where people are looking for encounter and exchange. The Plauderbank should promote this exchange."
Talking helps - not just with grief
The concept of the Plauderbank was launched in Great Britain in 2018. Developed by the police officer Ashley Jones in the city of Burnham-on-Sea, the idea spread quickly in Europe. The aim is to reduce social isolation and to promote spontaneous discussions in public space - across generations and without obligation.
If you sit on a chat bank, you will signal willingness to talk - a simple concept with a great impact. The bank in the Griesheim cemetery is the first of its kind in the city and should not remain an isolated case. The senior advisory board is planning further locations.
