Expansion of the trench should bring relief in heavy rain
The city of Griesheim is currently implementing measures for flood prevention in the area of the lashing trench. These are part of municipal flooding and should better protect the southwest residential area from heavy rain.
Background of the construction work
The drainage planning for the southwest residential area provides for excess rainwater to be guided in the Flechsgraben. In order for this to be drained off, there are currently work on expanding trenches and the construction of two attack thresholds that direct the water into newly created flood areas.
The construction site was set up last year, initial clearing work was carried out and preparations were made. The high groundwater mirror currently makes the construction work difficult, which was planned due to the season.
Delays possible by weather
The end of the construction was originally planned for April 2025. Due to the persistently wet weather, the completion is expected to be delayed. The construction work depends heavily on precipitation and temperatures, which is why there can always be short -term interruptions.
Planned measures at an overview
- Expansion of the tatter: The ditch is widened so that a 5-year regeneration event can flow to Küchlergraben without flooding.
- Creation of additional flood areas: These are intended to prevent the water from flowing out in the direction of Riedstadt uncontrollably.
- Extension of 500 meters in length: There is no longer any space to give the ditch more space.
- Preserving the concrete shells: These reduce the infiltration of the water into the groundwater and remain preserved.
- Bank adjustments: The embankment clients are raised in places in order to avoid floods on agricultural areas.
- Targeted flooding areas: In the west of the trench, forest and meadow surfaces are created, which can be flooded specifically in the event of floods.
Effects on agriculture and population
Local agriculture was informed about the construction work. During the construction period, the dirt road along the tens of tenses can only be used to a limited extent. The city of Griesheim and the executing company are trying to keep the impairments as low as possible.
