Animals support landscape management and nature conservation
Grazing of donkeys in the Griesheim municipal forest is beginning again these days. The animals are expected to return from their winter quarters at the airfield by the end of the week.
Initially, the six donkeys will be deployed on an area near Haus Waldeck. There, they will take on an important task in the maintenance of the wooded areas.
Contribution to natural regeneration
Grazing particularly suppresses the fast-growing reed grass. This creates better conditions for new herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees.
Later this year, the animals will be deployed to different areas within the city forest. The aim is to promote the natural development of the forest and strengthen biodiversity.
Sustainable management of the city forest
Forest grazing is considered a near-natural method of landscape management. The donkeys contribute to supporting the ecological balance in the forest and creating stable habitats in the long term.
