Science city of Darmstadt honors many years of commitment to the city twinning with Liepāja and Saanen
As part of the European end, Mayor Hanno Benz has awarded two personalities for their extraordinary commitment to international city twinning work. Dagmar Metzger , chair of the Darmstadt initiative for Liepāja e. V., and Walter Felix friendship badge of the science city of Darmstadt on Saturday, May 24th .
"With great personal commitment, both contributed to the strengthening of the city twinning and thus gave a valuable example of living European friendship and community," said Benz at the award ceremony for guests from the partner cities.
Commitment to European thoughts
Dagmar Metzger has been head of the Darmstadt initiative for Liepāja , which has been committed to the Latvian city for partnership since 1996. Under her leadership, numerous aid projects were initiated, relief supplies organized and the number of members of the association increased to 70. Benz paid tribute to her "impressive work" and emphasized how important civic engagement is especially in times of social challenges.
Walter Felix with Saanen for his many years of work as part of the . Over 15 years, he volunteered for the exchange and cooperation between the two cities. OB Benz Felix's role as a bridge builder and reliable contact person emphasized: "Your commitment is a valuable example of living European friendship."
The awarding of the friendship badges underlines the importance of civic engagement for international communication and peaceful Europe - a central concern of the Darmstadt town twinning work.
