The final construction phase starts on December 1st.
The final construction phase of the "From Gray to Green" project begins on Monday, December 1st. The interior of the traffic island on the east side of Heinrich-Heine-Straße will be de-sealed and transformed into a green space with two trees and perennial underplanting. For this purpose, a partial road closure will be in effect on the east side of the street in the area of the traffic island.
One-way traffic system during construction work
A one-way traffic system will be in place for the duration of the construction work. Exiting onto Griesheimer Straße from Heinrich-Heine-Straße will still be possible. However, those wishing to enter Heinrich-Heine-Straße from Griesheimer Straße must use Ernst-Ludwig-Straße as a detour during the construction period.
Construction work is scheduled to be completed in calendar week 50.
The work is expected to be completed in the 50th calendar week. During the construction period, there may be short-term disruptions to access to the houses at the eastern end of Heinrich-Heine-Straße (numbers 60 and 62). Residents have been informed in writing in advance.
Project for de-sealing and climate adaptation
As part of the project, already sealed areas south of Heinrich-Heine-Straße and south of Oppenheimer Straße will be unsealed and transformed into green spaces. The resulting rainwater will be channeled into these new green areas and used to irrigate the plants. Underground clay water reservoirs will be installed for this purpose.
The aim is to mitigate the local impacts of climate change. A significant cooling effect is expected, particularly on hot summer days and nights.
