Hessen Mobil is collecting waste along federal, state and county roads until the end of April
Hessen Mobil reports that the comprehensive spring cleaning of roads in southern Hesse has begun. As part of the annual deep cleaning, federal, state, and county roads have been cleared of litter since the end of March. The operation also serves to prepare for the upcoming mowing season on verges and ditches.
In addition to roadside greenery and intersections, junctions, rest areas, and parking lots are also being cleaned. Anything missed by street sweepers is collected by hand with litter pickers. Sections of road between Rüsselsheim and Neckarsteinach, as well as in the Ried region and along the state border in the Odenwald, are particularly affected.
Safety takes priority – an appeal to road users
Hessen Mobil requests that all road users exercise particular caution in the coming weeks. Employees of the road maintenance depots and contracted specialist companies will be working directly on the roads during the litter collection operation and must not be endangered.
Problematic mix of trash on the roadside
2,000 tons of illegally dumped waste on Hessian roads in 2023
The financial outlay is enormous: In 2023 alone, around €1.25 million was spent on disposal by external companies. In addition, there were €700,000 for internal services and 12,700 working hours directly provided by Hessen Mobil.
