Sparkassen Stiftung Groß-Gerau funds reading promotion project in Erfelden
In the Erfelden municipal library, colorful cushions will soon provide more space and comfort for the popular storytelling and reading events. The new cushions – in shades ranging from yellow and orange to purple and blue – as well as the conversion of several shelves to casters, were funded by the Sparkasse Foundation Groß-Gerau.
Until now, group visits suffered from the very limited space. Larger events were difficult to organize. To change this, library director Anja Stark successfully submitted a grant application. Thanks to the new rolling shelves, the room can now be flexibly reconfigured, creating significantly more space for media education programs.
Anniversary fund for reading promotion
The Sparkasse Foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and has established a special anniversary fund of €40,000 to mark the occasion. The aim is to strengthen the joy and motivation of reading among children and young people. All libraries in the Groß-Gerau district were eligible to apply.
More space for the joy of reading
Library director Anja Stark emphasizes the importance of the funding: She wants to attract as many daycare centers and schools as possible to the library and provide all children with easy access. Often, they return later with their parents and get a free library card. "But so far, such services in Erfelden have suffered greatly from the limited space," Stark explained during a visit from market director Benjamin Koszela. He was impressed by the concept and said, "We were very happy to support this."
