Whether Benz: "Important step to keep young talents and drive innovation"
With a newly established Games-Hub in the Hub31 technology and start-up center, the science city of Darmstadt specifically strengthens the local start-up scene and further expands its position as a technology location for the growth-strong games industry. The hub is intended to offer creative talent space, infrastructure and support-and thus create the prerequisites to keep technology-oriented start-ups in the region in the long term.
"Darmstadt has enormous potential-especially in the interaction of universities, research and technology. With the new Games-Hub, we want to offer creative minds not only space, but also real perspectives. This is an important step to retain young talents and to locate future-oriented companies here," said Mayor and economic director Hanno Benz.
Three pillars for innovative founding culture
The concept of the games hub is based on three essential elements:
- Infrastructure: affordable office space, the latest development hardware and a specially equipped laboratory are available to the teams.
- Accompaniment: Expert support from experts from universities, industry and the Game Association Hesse .
- Networking: Lecture and network formats, organized by the [AT] Play FRM Foundation for Digital Game Culture and the Game Association Hesse , create exchange and visibility.
"With the Games-Hub, we specifically create an environment in which creative and technology-oriented start-ups can grow," explain Laura Abascal Y Ballester and Prof. Dr. Klaus-Michael Ahrend , management of HUB31. The combination of flexible infrastructure, intensive support and living event program has so far been unique in the region in the games area.
Strong partner and clear focus
Darmstadt brings the best prerequisites through the Darmstadt University of Darmstadt-with the largest Games degree in Germany-and the TU Darmstadt, which is leading nationwide in the Serious Games area. The new hub closes a previous gap: So far there has been no central point of contact for game start-ups on site.
"The games industry is not only economically relevant, but also a technological driver driver," emphasizes Claudia Stricker , regional contact for Hesse from the Game Association. "With the Games-Hub, Darmstadt becomes visible again on the map of game development. We are pleased to actively accompany this project."
Hesse -wide networking with Frankfurt
The Games-Hub in Darmstadt is realized in close coordination with a parallel project in Frankfurt. While Frankfurt focuses on business, law and market access, Darmstadt positions itself as a location for technology and business development. The goal is a common network that uses synergies and strengthens start-ups in both cities.
