Wandrey: "Important step for the development of new residential areas in Darmstadt"
In its meeting on Wednesday, May 21, the magistrate of the science city of Darmstadt decided to end the streets in the gemstone district (construction area O 17 "Erbacher Straße/Judenteich"). This means that another important component for the traffic development of one of the recent residential areas in the urban area is implemented.
"The road expansion in the gemstone district is another component in the completion of the traffic infrastructure necessary for the complete development of new construction areas in Darmstadt," explains mobility director Paul Georg Wandrey. As early as the summer of 2024, traffic -calming measures were taken into planning - including ramp stones, paving as well as garbage collections and bicycle parking systems.
The construction area is located south of Erbacher Straße between the Hofgut Oberfeld in the east and the future street "Am Busenberg" in the west. The four main closing roads-at the whey fountain, on the Busenberg, on the Judenteich and at the Meierei-run in the north-south direction and are shown as traffic-calmed areas.
Greening and accessibility planned
The final expansion provides for a total area of around 11,000 square meters. 63 tree plantings and the system of 31 public parking spaces, including three designated disabled parking spaces, are planned. The design of the traffic areas, the road escort and the green areas is based on the requirements of the applicable development plan O 17.
