Wandrey: “Important step for the development of new residential areas in Darmstadt”
The Darmstadt City Council, in its meeting on Wednesday, May 21, approved the final phase of road construction in the Edelsteinviertel (development area O 17 "Erbacher Straße/Judenteich"). This represents another important step towards developing the transportation infrastructure of one of the city's newest residential areas.
“The road expansion in the Edelstein district is another building block in the completion of the transport infrastructure necessary for the full development of new building areas in Darmstadt,” explains Head of Mobility Paul Georg Wandrey. Traffic calming measures were already included in the planning in the summer of 2024 – these included ramps, raised paving, as well as waste collection points and bicycle parking facilities.
The building area lies south of Erbacher Straße, between the Oberfeld estate to the east and the future street "Am Busenberg" to the west. The four main access roads – Am Molkenbrunnen, Am Busenberg, Am Judenteich and An der Meierei – run north-south and are designated as traffic-calmed zones.
Greenery and accessibility features are planned
The final development will encompass a total area of approximately 11,000 square meters. Plans include the planting of 63 trees and the creation of 31 public parking spaces, including three designated disabled parking spaces. The design of the traffic areas, roadside greenery, and green spaces will comply with the specifications of the applicable development plan O 17.
