Collecting trash in a good mood – a successful community action
Around 30 dedicated geocachers proved once again last weekend that environmental protection and fun can go hand in hand. At the fifth CITO (Cache In Trash Out) event around the Groß-Gerau district office, participants collected numerous pieces of trash – including doormats, inline skates, and a large number of glass bottles. While no furniture or car tires were found this time, the provided 1.1-cubic-meter trash can quickly filled up with the collected waste.
Teamwork for a clean environment
After the welcome, the volunteers fanned out with grabbers and buckets and received a map marking the collection area – this included the grounds of the district administration , the indoor swimming pool, the district hospital and the Martin Buber School.
The county's economic development agency organized the event with support from the waste management service company (AWS) , which provided the trash cans, and the municipal works department of Groß-Gerau, which supplied the necessary equipment. Julia Flächsenhaar and Beatrix Preß from the organizing team provided refreshments and rolls for the participants.
Thanks from District Administrator Thomas Will
At the start of the campaign, District Administrator Thomas Will the dedicated volunteers for their efforts:
"The spring cleanup is unfortunately always necessary. But everything is easier with fun and motivation."
