The South Hesse Police Headquarters offers insights into diverse career opportunities – program at four locations
175 female students from grades 5 to 13 explored the South Hesse Police Headquarters during this year's Girls'Day on April 24th. In Darmstadt, Heppenheim, Rüsselsheim and Erbach, they gained practical insights into the police profession – from crime scene investigation to handling police dogs.
At all four locations, officers organized a varied program. The participants were allowed to secure evidence with soot powder, learn about the forensic identification service, and even sit in a patrol car. A visit to a holding cell was also part of the day's program.
In addition to forensic aspects, physical fitness was also a focus. The students were able to put on protective gear, test handcuffs on training dummies, and gain initial experience in weapons handling under the guidance of a tactical trainer.
A particular highlight was the demonstration by the service dogs. They impressively showcased their skills in searching for ammunition and apprehending people – a demonstration that ended with applause and treats for the four-legged officers.
The aim of the campaign was to showcase the diverse career opportunities within the police force to young women and to spark their interest in a career in law enforcement. Many participants were enthusiastic and expressed interest in a future career in the police service.
