Telekom starts network expansion - initial connections possible from June 2025
The fiber optic expansion in Griesheim is expected to begin at the end of March 2025. The city of Griesheim and Deutsche Telekom provide information about the project in two events.

Glass fiber as a key technology for the future
Mayor Verfa Krebs-Wetzl emphasizes the importance of the project:
“Glass fiber is the key technology for our digital society. The new network increases the attractiveness of our city and ensures our future viability as a residential and business location. ”
According to Telekom, households and companies with fiber optic connection can benefit from bandwidths up to 1,000 Mbit/s . A change is particularly attractive: the fiber optic connection is currently free and saves 799.95 euros when a fiber optic tariff is booked.

What is planned?
- 5,700 households and companies in the eastern urban area are equipped with glass fiber (FTTH-fiber-to-the-home).
- The first of ten expansion sections starts on Lindenstrasse .
- Telekom relocates 35 kilometers of fiber optic cables and sets 44 new network distributors .
- June 2025 : First connections can be put into operation.
- 2027: Completion of the construction work for the entire area.
How does glass fiber get into the house?
- Owner: Inside, the laying must agree. Telekom informs all affected property managers and owners: inside in writing.
- Tenant: Inside can apply for a connection from Telekom. Telekom takes over the contact with the landlord.
Griesheim on the way to the digital future
The first expansion (FTTC-Fiber-to-The-CURB) was carried out by the NGA-Netz between 2015 and 2017 In the years 2022 and 2023, under -the -manage edge layers such as Aussiedlerhöfe were also developed with glass fiber.
Now follows the nationwide fiber optic expansion for Griesheim. The city is one of the municipalities that rely on a sustainable infrastructure early on.
