Regional plan, wind power and swine fever – a discussion with district administrators and mayors
This morning, the annual exchange between Regional President Prof. Dr. Jan Hilligardt and the district administrators and mayors of the Darmstadt administrative region place at the Darmstadt Regional Council offices. The focus was on current projects and ongoing tasks of the authority that are of particular importance to southern Hesse.
"Personal exchange with local authorities is essential for effective cooperation between the state and local levels," emphasized Hilligardt. It's about mutual understanding, appreciation, and ultimately, finding good solutions for the citizens.
Focus on regional plan and wind power expansion
A key topic was the new regional plan for southern Hesse, including the regional land-use plan. The regional assembly's decision to make the plan publicly available is imminent. Experts also provided information on the planning status of the Spessart-Odenwald pipeline , a major infrastructure project running through five districts. The regional council is responsible for three of the four sections.
Another focus was the expansion of wind power . Currently, 21 applications for a total of 95 wind turbines pending in the administrative district, and numerous further projects have already been announced.
State-run water management projects , such as dike restoration commissioned by municipalities, as well as measures in the area of civil defense and the fight against African swine fever also discussed. Procedures related to naturalization, voluntary departure, and repatriation .
New leadership in municipal and savings bank supervision
During the event, Helga Uhl , the new head of the municipal and savings bank supervisory authority , also introduced herself to the attending administrative heads.
The Darmstadt administrative region comprises ten rural districts and currently four independent cities – Frankfurt, Offenbach, Wiesbaden, and Darmstadt – as well as three cities with special status: Hanau, Rüsselsheim, and Bad Homburg. Hanau is expected to become an independent city at the turn of the year 2025/26.
