Focus on justice, economic strength and social cohesion – “Not just about big issues, but also about the little things”
The Green Party in Darmstadt set its course for the 2026 local elections . Eva Bredow-Cordier and Heiko Depner as the top candidates by a large majority. At the press conference, both emphasized that they see politics as "caring for the people" —not only on major issues for the future, but also on the small, everyday concerns that are crucial for many citizens.
Attitude, responsibility and solidarity
“Polarization, oversimplification, and hate speech are trying to divide our society. Right now, we need people who remain clear-headed – who listen and take responsibility,” explained Eva Bredow-Cordier . The 61-year-old Darmstadt resident and mother of three grown children stands for social justice, forward-looking health policy, and a city that creates space for encounters – “without the pressure to consume, in the neighborhoods as well as in the city center.”
Their co-lead candidate Heiko Depner , 42 years old, entrepreneur and spokesperson for the Green Party district association, emphasizes the importance of a sustainable economic policy: "Darmstadt is at the forefront nationwide when it comes to startup foundings. We want young companies to stay here – in a city that encourages rather than hinders."
“Stronger together” – the guiding principle for the election
Under the motto "Stronger Together," the Green Party in Darmstadt is entering the election campaign. Bredow-Cordier and Depner see the city at a turning point: "After years of new beginnings, the city currently lacks direction," the leading duo stated. "Darmstadt needs renewed momentum, ideas, and courage. We stand for a city where the economy, social issues, and climate are considered together."
Both emphasized that the Greens had also taken on responsibility in difficult years – for example, by securing public services and creating new neighborhoods. The goal is a city "that is fair, future-oriented and economically strong – and where social cohesion is once again palpable."
The general meeting unanimously confirmed the entire list.
also elected the entire list on November 1, 2025. After individual votes, it was unanimously confirmed in a secret ballot.
