Free collection from February 23rd to April 20th – please arrange an appointment in advance
From Monday, February 23, to and including Monday, April 20, the municipal services department (EAD) will again offer its free green waste collection service for private households in the science city of Darmstadt.
Those interested can arrange a collection appointment by phone at 06151 13-46000 or conveniently online via the EAD customer portal . The EAD recommends booking appointments early, as the collection period includes a break for Easter. There will be no green waste collection during Holy Week and Easter.
Things to consider when collecting green waste
To ensure a smooth collection process, the EAD requests that you observe the following guidelines:
Brush and branches must have a maximum diameter of ten centimeters and a length of two meters. They must be bundled with twine and placed in paper bags or cardboard boxes along with loose green waste. The waste must be placed at the property no later than 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Plastic bags, wire or plastic string are not permitted, as these cannot be removed at the composting plant.
Suitable large paper bags for green waste are available at the EAD recycling center. They cost €0.70 each. The recycling center is open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 70-liter bags are also available at the district offices in Eberstadt and Wixhausen.
The provided bags and other green waste will only be collected during the scheduled garden waste collection, not during the regular emptying of the organic waste bin. This is for the occupational health and safety of the employees.
Dispose of large pieces of wood and tree stumps separately
Wood pieces and rootstocks with a diameter of more than ten centimeters are not disposed of via the green waste collection, as they can damage the compaction mechanism of the collection vehicles. This so-called large wood – as well as other compostable waste from Darmstadt households – can be taken directly to the composting facility at Eckhardwiesenstraße 25. It is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
