Preparatory work begins in the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts
As the City of Darmstadt announces, preparatory work for the upgrade of the green space "Im Tiefen See" in the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts will begin on Monday, February 16. The aim of the project is to modernize the green space in the long term and improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.
Clearing and new sightlines
As a first step, overgrown groups of trees will be pruned. Targeted clearing and tree transplanting will create new sightlines and visually appealing open spaces. At the same time, this will lay the foundation for future sports and play areas.
For every tree that has to be felled during the work, replacement plantings are planned. Subsequently, the cleared areas as well as additional areas will be replanted with site-appropriate trees and shrubs.
Meeting place in the neighborhood
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the social importance of the project. Green spaces are vital meeting places and strengthen community spirit in the neighborhood. The upgrade will create a place that promotes social cohesion in the district.
Michael Kolmer, the city's head of green spaces, also sees the redesign as an important boost for the neighborhood. He believes the new design will create attractive open spaces and strengthen residents' connection to their surroundings. The green space is intended to offer all generations a place to relax, play, and exercise.
Funding from the "Social Cohesion" program
Temporary disruptions due to material transport may occur during the construction work. The project is financed by approved funding from the urban development program "Social Cohesion." The redesign of the "Im Tiefen See" green space is also a key project within the Integrated Urban Development Concept.
