The traditional circular route leads from Kranichstein to the Mathildenhöhe
Darmstadt will once again hold its traditional border walk on Saturday, May 30, 2026. It starts at 11 a.m. at the Brentanoanlage near the Chillmo youth café in Darmstadt-Kranichstein.
Route through nature and city history
Together with the brass band of the Darmstadt hunting club, Mayor Hanno Benz will open the border walk.
The route passes by, among other things, Lake Erich Kästner, the Bioversum science center, and the pheasantry. Other stops include the Hartig Monument, the Hirschköpfe (a rock formation), the Oberfeld area, the Rosenhöhe (a hill), and finally the Mathildenhöhe.
The final rest stop will take place in the plane tree grove to mark the 125th anniversary of the Mathildenhöhe.
Specialties from partner cities
Along the route, delegations from Darmstadt's twin cities will offer regional specialties and drinks. The showmen's association, the Darmstadt private brewery, and ENTEGA AG contribute to the culinary offerings.
The German Red Cross will provide refreshments, including pea soup and drinks, during the final rest stop. The Swing Sound Orchestra will once again provide musical accompaniment.
Tickets and public transport use
Tickets cost €9 for adults and €4.50 for children in advance. They are available in the town hall foyer and at the district offices in Arheilgen, Eberstadt, and Wixhausen.
Tickets cost €10 on the day of the event, or €5 for concessions. A day ticket for public transport zone 4000 is included in the price.
