An additional 1,700 square meters of trees and shrubs were planted
Since the start of the current planting season, a total of 78 new trees planted in the town of Griesheim. In addition, the town's green spaces teams have planted approximately 1,700 square meters of shrubs and perennials in newly created planting beds.
New plantings in several streets
Fifty-seven new trees were planted in Sophie-Scholl-Straße , Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße , Pfützenstraße , and Mainstraße alone . Further plantings in Marie-Curie-Straße are planned for early 2026 .
Replacement plantings at various locations
In addition, 21 replacement plantings in several areas of the city. These took place, among other locations, on Rheinstraße , Willy-Brandt-Allee , Schillerstraße , Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße , at the parking lot at Felsenkeller , on Lilienthalstraße , on Eberstädter Weg , on Parsevalstraße and on Barbaraweg .
Robust tree species for urban areas
The newly planted trees are site-adapted and climate-resilient species . Among others, the following were planted: autumn flame maple , Norway maple , steppe cherry , zelkova , sweetgum , purple alder , pagoda tree , and silver linden .
The city also opted for robust varieties of shrubs and perennials, such as lavender , spirea , catmint , and asters , which cope well with extreme weather conditions and are particularly suitable for inner-city locations. The selected tree species are also more tolerant of road salt .
To protect against solar radiation, all newly planted trees received thermal bark protection in the form of a white coating .
