Library statistics show increasing usage both on-site and digitally
The Griesheim city library recorded significant growth in 2025. According to the city, the library reached a new record high with 75,870 loans (+9.51 percent). Visitor numbers also increased to 17,030 (+2.23 percent).
Digital offerings are increasingly in demand
17.44 percent compared to the previous year . This confirms the trend that more and more users are turning to e-books, e-audiobooks, and digital newspapers.
The number of active readers rose to 1,637 , including around 300 new registrations .
Focus on quality in media holdings
The media collection was systematically revised: The library now comprises approximately 14,500 items . By reducing the number of items and simultaneously adding 1,291 new titles – including about 200 donated items – the library's clarity and organization have been improved.
Management emphasizes that conscious attention is paid to quality and up-to-dateness.
Popular titles for young and old
The most frequently borrowed media included children's and young adult resources as well as current literature. Particularly popular items included:
"Strawberry Fairy" (Tonie figure)
"Conni and the Children's Party" (picture book)
"Why? Why? Why?: All About Airplanes"
"The School of Magical Animals"
"Peninsula" by Kristine Bilkau
Events only possible to a limited extent
Despite rising numbers, fewer events could be held in 2025. Although a total of 29 media education programs were conducted, these were limited to the first half of the year. In the second half, formats such as picture book screenings and workshops had to be cancelled due to staffing issues.
Library as an important meeting place
The city of Griesheim emphasizes the importance of the library as a place for learning and social interaction. It plays a particularly important role for children and young people in terms of education, social participation, and the promotion of democracy.
