Expanded tree sites improve water uptake and root development
The city of Griesheim reports that the "Site Optimization / Expansion of Tree Sites" project on Lindenstrasse is proceeding according to plan. The first trees have already been given significantly more space, allowing their root systems to develop better. The removal of paving will also enable the trees to absorb more water in the future, which is particularly important during dry summer months.
Improved soil structure for healthy urban trees
The newly created tree pits were filled with soil and special tree substrate. This substrate is deliberately not compacted to ensure sufficient air spaces remain. These are essential for supplying the trees with nutrients and oxygen via their roots.
The city asks for consideration.
The tree sites are bordered with edging stones for protection. The city advises against entering or driving and against leaving any objects there. Compacting the soil would damage the young roots and compromise the success of the project. Littering should also be strictly avoided.
With the expanded tree planting sites, the city of Griesheim is creating improved conditions for the growth of urban trees – an important contribution to a healthy urban climate.
