Successful model confirmed: “Blue Light Gang” grows into the next level
On August 26, 2025, the Griesheim Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a special milestone in its youth development program. For the first time, members of the children's fire department, founded in March 2024, transferred to the youth fire department. Oliver and Christian, both now ten years old, were officially accepted into the youth department.
Children's Fire Brigade Supervisor Annette Stoll emphasized the importance of this transition: "The transition of the first two members confirms that the Children's Fire Brigade can play an important role in recruiting future emergency personnel."
Griesheim Children's Fire Brigade receives strong response
Since its founding, the Griesheim Children's Fire Department has offered children ages six and up a playful introduction to the world of firefighting. Around 20 children participate regularly, supervised by a six-person team. The program includes both firefighting-related topics and recreational activities – most recently, a turntable ladder ride with a view over Griesheim.
Due to high demand, there is currently a waiting list. Interested parents can register kinderfeuerwehr@griesheim.de
Support from local partners
The mascot "Blauli" was manufactured by the Naeh factory , a music box for the children's greeting was donated by the Familientraum Griesheim Fieg Werbetechnik the printing on caps and handcarts . In addition, the Griesheim Volunteer Fire Department Association supports the children's and youth fire departments, as well as the operational and volunteer departments.
