Inner-city development remains a focus
Future measures for inner-city development are taking shape. Within the framework of the federal funding program "Sustainable Inner Cities and Centers," the city administration is currently examining the visions and ideas of its citizens.
These were developed in workshops in spring 2024. In interdisciplinary vision teams, experts from various departments of the Griesheim city administration are translating the citizens' ideas and visions into concrete proposals for action. An online public consultation on these proposals is planned for spring 2025. The city aims to understand, through citizen feedback, which measures for the city center are particularly important to the residents of Griesheim.
Since 2022, the city has been working on the strategic development of Griesheim's city center as part of the federal funding program "Sustainable City Centers and Town Centers." The participation of Griesheim's residents was a key priority for the city. Through various participatory formats, shared visions and the needs for the city center of the future were defined.
The brainstorming process kicked off with a well-attended community event in the city center, "Griesheim Makes a Difference," on June 3, 2023. Following this, all Griesheim residents had the opportunity to submit their ideas for the city center online via an "idea map." During city walks in the fall of 2023, residents were able to present and discuss their ideas in the city center. Then, in the spring of 2024, residents and business owners developed long-term visions for the city center in topic-specific workshops. These visions cover various aspects of Griesheim's city center, from gastronomy and commerce to recreational and leisure areas, as well as various mobility concepts.
