New bike road in Goethestrasse takes shape - inauguration in September planned
From July 21, 2025, the city of Griesheim will open the markings for its first bicycle road. The preparatory demarcation work for removing the old street markings begins during the summer vacation. The new bicycle road marking is then applied in sections-intersection for intersection.
In the run -up to the work, holding signs are set up in the affected areas. Vehicles must be removed from the prohibition zone within 72 hours, otherwise it can be towed. The city of Griesheim is asking those residents to park their vehicles on private property as possible during this time or to take appropriate precautions in the event of absence.
After completing the marking work and setting up the corresponding signage, the bicycle road should be put into operation promptly. The ceremonial opening is scheduled in September.
First bicycle road for Griesheim
The Griesheim city council decided to set up a bicycle road in February 2021. The planned course: from Georgstraße via Darmstädter Straße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße in Goethestrasse to the Gerhart Hauptmann School.
The implementation was preceded by a feasibility examination and a citizen participation in spring 2022. The suggestions of the citizens flowed into the further planning. An engineering office was commissioned with the execution planning. In addition, votes with the police, regulatory office as well as the urban disability officer and the VdK on the subject of accessibility took place.
In May 2022, the city submitted a funding application to the state of Hesse. After the interim switching of the program to the federal funding program "City and Land", the measure was approved. The start of construction was July 15, 2024.
