Marriage registrations and certificates can be partially applied for digitally
GRIESHEIM – Citizens can now complete four registry office services online: the subsequent registration of a marriage contracted abroad , the application for a marriage certificate , the pre-registration for marriage , and the registration for the marriage ceremony . The online forms are available on the city of Griesheim's website.
"We are pleased that more services are now available online and that many things can be prepared conveniently from home. However, the trip to the registry office is not completely eliminated," said the registry office staff.
Who can use the online services
This offer is aimed at individuals who are or were registered in Griesheim as their primary or secondary residence, or who have their habitual residence here. A BundID account, which can be set up at id.bund.de . This requires a new identity card, a digital identity card for EU citizens, or an ELSTER certificate.
Application process
Personal information and supporting documents such as birth certificates or marriage certificates are uploaded to the online forms as PDFs or image files. The registry office then contacts applicants and informs them of which original documents must be submitted.
Overview of the new online services
- Subsequent registration of a marriage abroad : Requirements include, among other things, German citizenship of one spouse and a valid foreign document with an apostille or legalization, as well as a translation. Subsequent registration is voluntary and subject to a fee.
- Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage : Confirms that there are no impediments to marriage under German law if the marriage takes place abroad. Valid for six months.
- Pre-registration for marriage : Serves as a preliminary examination of eligibility for marriage; proof is submitted online.
- Marriage registration : Both parties register with their BundID. For marriages at the Griesheim registry office, you can choose a preferred date.
After reviewing the documents, the registry office will invite you to a personal appointment where the original documents will be checked.
