Focus on road safety: Overgrowth on sidewalks and unclean areas should be avoided
The Griesheim city administration requests that property owners regularly trim back plants that overhang fences or walls and encroach on public space . The aim is traffic safety on sidewalks and bike paths – especially for strollers, wheelchair users , and pedestrians .
"It becomes critical when sidewalks are so overgrown that people have to walk in the street or traffic signs are no longer legible," explains Diana Richter from the Urban Development Department. Property owners are obligated to remove overgrowth in a timely manner and keep adjacent paths clean.
Gentle pruning is permitted – defects can be reported
only gentle shaping and maintenance pruning between March 1st and September 30th . Radical pruning is only allowed between October and February to protect nesting birds. Reports of overgrowth obstructing public traffic areas can be submitted via the City of Griesheim's online reporting system .
The obligation to sweep also applies to sidewalks and streets
The city also reminds residents of their obligation to sweep stipulated in the street cleaning regulations sidewalks completely clean and the street clean up to the center line . Cleaning should be completed by 8 p.m. on the day before Sundays or public holidays . In cases of sudden or heavy soiling, immediate cleaning may be necessary.
