Boris Kolb reports on tasks and security structures in the municipality
As the city of Griesheim reports, Police Chief Inspector Boris Kolb – the local police officer – presented his work at the most recent meeting of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council. In addition to insights into prevention efforts and road safety programs for children, the presentation also covered current topics from the Senior Citizens' Office, the status of the rickshaw donation campaign, and new developments in community care.
Prevention, safety and responsiveness are the focus
Police Chief Inspector Boris Kolb, the local police officer in Griesheim, introduced himself and his duties at the last meeting of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council. His role as local police officer encompasses all matters related to crime prevention in the community, as well as traffic safety training for the youngest children in kindergarten and for students in the primary schools and the Gerhart Hauptmann School. He explained that the Pfungstadt police station handles night shifts for Griesheim, as the Griesheim police station is only staffed during the day. After his introduction, Boris Kolb answered questions from the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council.
Review of events and donation status for the rickshaw
Following this, senior citizens' representative Stefanie Ondruch reported on the activities of the senior citizens' office. The joint event with the senior citizens' advisory board on the topic of "Joint Diseases" was particularly well attended. Dr. Raj Kumar Choudhary, a general practitioner and specialist in internal medicine and emergency medicine from Griesheim, answered numerous personal questions from the audience after an informative and engaging presentation.
Furthermore, the senior citizens' representative reported that donations totaling over €8,000 had been received for the rickshaw. In addition to a generous private donor from Darmstadt, the main contributors were the Sparkasse bank, KS office furniture, and the Friedrich Friedrich removals company. Subsequently, the city council released the earmarked funds for the remaining €5,000 required for the investment. It is also welcome news that a three-quarter-time community care worker position for Griesheim has been applied for and approved. The job posting is currently being advertised. The senior citizens' advisory board had also advocated for this.
Outlook on projects and activities of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board
As usual, the report from the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Matthias Beth, followed. He expressed his confidence that a rickshaw would be available in the spring, operated by volunteer drivers for residents and guests of the senior care facilities Haus Waldeck, Kursana Domizil, and Johanniter Tagespflege. He regretted that this project, as well as the community care worker position, had not received the support of all political parties in the city council. He then reported on further meetings of the city council and the committee meetings.
Karlheinz Langen gave an overview of the press releases issued by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board. Two press releases have been published since the last board meeting. In addition, events organized by the Senior Citizens' Office are publicized in various Facebook groups and in the city of Griesheim's event calendar.
At the end of the meeting, Bernd Jann reported on a VdK campaign entitled "Together instead of alone." Events such as coffee and cake afternoons offer opportunities to make connections and meet in a supportive environment. These gatherings are open not only to VdK members but also to guests interested in community.
