Landscape maintenance at Kirschberg – donkeys support nature conservation in the city forest
The new grazing season is beginning in the Griesheim municipal forest: Six donkeys are expected to return from their winter quarters at the airfield at the end of March and will once again actively contribute to landscape management. The animals will initially graze an area east of the Gerhart Hauptmann School, on Kirschberg hill, to control the rampant growth of reed grass and thus allow new herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees to establish themselves.
Later this year, the donkeys will graze in various areas of the city forest. The aim is to promote natural regeneration and thus sustainably strengthen ecological diversity.
