City council decides on the development plan - groundbreaking for development
The conversion project Griesheimer Anger mastered two central steps on the way to implementation: On July 3, 2025, the city council unanimously decided to build the development plan , accompanied by an urban development contract and an updated cooperation agreement with the urban development company Griesheim (SEGG). Just a few days later, on July 8th, the official groundbreaking for the development work took place.
Planning as a common success
The Griesheimer Anger is being built on an earlier military area and is considered one of the city's largest urban planning projects. The city council not only decided on the development plan, but also the urban development contract with SEGG and Sahle Wohnen GmbH & Co KG , which has been responsible for the project together with the city since 2020.
Erich Varnhagen (SEGG) emphasized: "The unanimous resolutions show that there was no compromise solution, but a profit for all Griesheimers."

Space marks the start of the development
On July 8, the groundbreaking ceremony was carried out by Mayor Verfa Krebs-Wetzl , representative of the SEGG as well as planning and construction companies. In his speech, the mayor emphasized the importance of the new neighborhood:
"The Griesheimer Anger is a great opportunity for our city. With over 500 planned residential units, we urgently create living space - for families, seniors, long -established and moved people."
Construction start in autumn - completion of the development until February 2026
The development work includes the construction of building roads and the laying of the underground infrastructure. Theißstrasse will begin in autumn 2025 - the construction of row houses is planned. In order to reduce the burden on residents, the construction site access takes place exclusively via the project area.
Klaus Rohletter from the executive civil engineering company Albert Weil emphasizes:
"We know that construction site loads such as noise and dust are inevitable. The more we thank the residents for their understanding."
