Three-day Advent weekend with stage program, twin cities and a visit from St. Nicholas
The city of Groß-Gerau reports that numerous visitors took advantage of the past weekend to visit the Groß-Gerau Christmas market. Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau opened the market on Friday evening and, in his address, called for the Advent season to be used "to come closer together again."
Festive atmosphere for the opening
The brass ensemble of the Protestant deanery of Groß-Gerau-Rüsselsheim provided musical accompaniment for the opening, followed by a performance from "Die Bäänd." Around 25 stalls presented a wide range of offerings over the three days of the market – including winemakers, craftspeople, beekeepers, as well as food and drinks. Groß-Gerau's twin towns of Szamotuly, Tielt, and Bruneck were also represented with their own stalls.
St. Nicholas event delights children
A particular highlight for the youngest guests was the visit of St. Nicholas on Saturday morning. The fire brigade "rescued" him from the balcony of the town hall before he handed out small gifts to almost 140 children.
Accompanying program at the City Museum
Alongside the Christmas market, a craft market featuring high-quality handicrafts took place in the city museum. On Sunday, the local women's association also offered a selection of cakes in their "Women's Association Café".
