Cool temperatures and a decline in visitor numbers lead to the early closure
The swimming season at the Groß-Gerau outdoor pool will end earlier than planned this year. Instead of remaining open until September 14th, the pool will only stay open until Sunday, September 7th, 2025. The reason for this is the persistently cool temperatures and the recent sharp decline in visitor numbers. "We didn't make this decision lightly, but the significantly lower temperatures and the declining visitor numbers make an earlier closure sensible," explained Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau and the managing director of the swimming pool company.
Summary of the 2025 outdoor swimming season
Around 40,000 guests used the outdoor swimming pool this summer – a figure roughly the same as last year. Demand was particularly high in May and June, when the season started with large numbers of visitors. However, from mid-July onwards, the cool and changeable weather led to a significant drop in attendance. The weather remained unsettled throughout August and September. The operators consider it a positive sign that the season passed without any swimming accidents, technical malfunctions, or major incidents.
Indoor swimming pool opens earlier
For indoor swimming pool visitors, however, there is good news: The Groß-Gerau indoor swimming pool will start its autumn/winter season on Monday, September 8, 2025 – one week earlier than originally planned.
