Cool temperatures and a drop in visitors lead to early closure
The swimming season at the Groß-Gerau outdoor pool will end earlier than planned this year. Instead of September 14, the pool will only remain open until Sunday, September 7, 2025. The reason is the persistently cool temperatures and the recent sharp decline in visitor numbers. "We didn't make this decision lightly, but the significantly lower temperatures and declining visitor numbers make an earlier closure sensible," explained Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau and the managing director of the pool company.
Review of the 2025 outdoor pool season
Around 40,000 guests used the outdoor pool this summer – a figure roughly the same as last year. Demand was particularly strong in May and June, when the season began with high visitor numbers. However, from mid-July onwards, the cool and changeable weather led to a significant drop in attendance. The weather was also unstable in August and September. Operators are pleased that the season passed without any swimming accidents, technical malfunctions, or major incidents.
