The head of the Auf Esch daycare center speaks to students of early childhood education
The professional expertise from Groß-Gerau is in demand even beyond the city limits. Sevgi Mala-Caliskan, head of the Auf Esch daycare center, was recently invited as a guest lecturer in the Childhood Education program at Justus Liebig University Giessen .
At the invitation of Norbert Neuß, she presented the key roles, tasks, and challenges of daycare center directors to approximately 170 first-year students. Her presentation was based on her many years of leadership and practical experience in everyday pedagogical practice.
Responsibility as the core of leadership work
The guest lecture focused on the role of daycare center directors as comprehensive responsibility holders. Sevgi Mala-Caliskan emphasized that leadership positions in daycare centers combine pedagogical, organizational, and legal responsibilities. Values-based leadership, clear objectives, and transparent responsibilities are crucial factors for successful work.
Practical insights for students
Another focus was on professional leadership practices. Topics such as empowerment, targeted delegation of tasks, a respectful team culture, transparent communication, and collaborative partnerships with parents were clearly illustrated using concrete examples. This gave the students a realistic and motivating insight into the daily management of a daycare center.
Prof. Dr. Neuß was very satisfied with the event and expressed his wish to use the guest lecture as a starting point for further cooperation between the university and the practice from Groß-Gerau.
