Exclusive guided tour of the Schenck premises on February 3, 2026
"Behind the Scenes" series, the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt a special opportunity on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 "In the Preparation Workshops," at 5:00 p.m. on the Schenck grounds in Darmstadt.
Insights into a unique museum profession
Participants will gain a vivid insight into the daily work of taxidermists. Tools, techniques, and work processes that are of central importance to the museum's scientific work will be presented. These include, among other things, the meticulous preparation of fossils and the elaborate, lifelike arranging of animal specimens for the collection and exhibition.
A special focus of the tour is on the unique finds from the Messel Pit , a UNESCO World Heritage Site of international importance. The tour will cover the excavation, conservation, and careful preparation of these extraordinary fossils.
Participation and registration
Participation in the tour is limited to a maximum of 25 people . Tickets are only available online.
