Mayor Akdeniz: "Local health promotion is key to quality of life"
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science June 1, 2025, a new to promote health literacy district Eberstadt-Süd in collaboration with local stakeholders, associations, and professionals to improve the quality of life for local residents and to specifically strengthen individual and community health literacy
Participation and local networks in focus
The project relies on participatory approachesthat focus on the needs of the residents. Barriers are to be removed, resources in the neighborhood made visible, and information on topics such as prevention, early intervention, and health promotion provided in an easily accessible way.
Mayor and Social Affairs Officer Barbara Akdeniz explains:
“The aim of the project is to sustainably improve the quality of life of the residents and to enable them to make well-informed and self-determined health-related decisions.”
Events and information sessions planned
The project will be implemented in cooperation with the community outreach program at the Caritas Center Darmstadt-Eberstadt-Süd in the coming months Target group-specific events and information sessions developed and offered
The project is managed by the Social Planning Office of the Social Services Department and overseen by the Healthy City Coordination Office . It is financed by statutory health insurance funds through the GKV Alliance for Health (www.gkv-buendnis.de).
Duration: one year
“This makes an important contribution to the development of a comprehensive health-promoting strategy for Darmstadt,” emphasizes Mayor Akdeniz.
